Saturday Night Special: An Evening with Ríoghnach Connolly and Ellis Davies
“(Connolly is) A remarkable singer and flautist...who can ease from Irish traditional influences to soul.” - The Guardian
“Within each of Ríoghnach’s music projects, there is a welter of ideas and
innovations” - Irish News
Join us for an intimate duo show in the King's Arms with Ríoghnach Connolly and Ellis Davies. Over the first lockdown, the pair honed their usual set into something more varied and personal in their series of livestreams, Live From the Back Room.
This is a rare chance to see them perform this set in the flesh.
Ríoghnach Connolly, BBC Folk Singer of the Year 2019, and Ellis Davies have been playing together for nearly 20 years – as long as they have been a couple.
Together they have graced stages as far away as Brazil and Singapore, and recorded under Ríoghnach’s name, as festival favourites Honeyfeet and as Beware Soul Brother, along with Mendi Singh.
As a duo, they are unencumbered with the need to stick to one stylistic path and instead weave influences from folk, soul, hiphop, jazz and blues together to create an eclectic and intricate sound.
Ríoghnach’s bands The Breath & Honeyfeet are currently working on new studio albums.
