Saturday Night Special: KIRK McELHINNEY TRIO
The quality of Kirk McElhinney’s songwriting, his voice and guitar playing is recognised by any who come across his work.
His sound once described by Nitin Sawney as “a melting pot of sonic bliss”, Kirk himself calls urban folk.
His songs and his delivery have an uncanny ability to capture people’s hearts and move minds and bodies.
On the road promoting his new album “You Are Not Your Past” on Manchester WorldFolk label Limefield,
https://kirkmcelhinney.bandcamp.com/album/you-are-not-your-past
he is joined by 2 artists in their own right.
Andy Hay on drums recently released his second album after the acclaimed “Many Rivers” made its mark on the British music scene and long time collaborator John Ellis has worked with The Cinematic Orchestra, Corinne Bailey Rae, Lily Allen, Tom Jones and too many more to mention.
All three blend together vocally and musically with real fire and soul.

Saturday Night Special: Silly Boy
In his intimate debut hour “SILLY BOY” Rich Hardisty takes us on a journey through the highs and the lows of his unusual life.
Expect anecdotes and observations about mental institutions, missing dads and mania, all from his warm/inquisitive/childlike perspective.
In the show Rich tries his best to convey what mental illness really looks and feels like.
But you won’t find any self pity or loathing here… this is a celebration of the beauty and silliness of it all and the interesting, hilarious and sometimes shocking things his brain is capable of doing (whether he wants it to or not.)
Raw, open and honest but most importantly…FUNNY!

Saturday Night Special: Lauren Young
If Amy Winehouse and Tom Waits had a love child with a sweet, sweet voice, that blessed infant might not sound unlike Lauren Young. An accomplished classical pianist who can turn her hand to jazz, blues and even soul, Young creates a strikingly original sound, colouring her self-penned songs with an expansive emotional palette. But this is not painting by numbers! From big lush arrangements to whispered heart-break lullabies, the pain, the joy and the wonder are as real and tangible as Young’s Stockport roots. A rare jewel in Manchester’s grimy crown. Do not miss this artist!

H P Lovecraft: Gallery of Screams
Two weird tales adapted and performed by R M Lloyd Parry“Any magazine-cover hack can splash paint around and call it a ‘Witches’ Sabbath or ‘Portrait of the Devil.’ But only a real artist can make it scare you…”
In these haunting short stories by H P Lovecraft, the American master of the weird tale, an art critic and a philosopher get pushed to edge of sanity by the images and sounds they confront.
Pickman’s Model introduces us to the uncannily brilliant paintings of Richard Upton Pickman, a genius shunned by the artistic establishment because of the sickening realism of his canvases. It is paired with The Music of Eric Zann, an eerie tale of inspiration and possession that Lovecraft himself counted as a personal favourite.
Robert Lloyd Parry has spend the last 15 years enacting The M R James Project, a series of one-man shows based on classic English ghost stories. Here he crosses the Atlantic to pay tribute to James’s exact contemporary – a stranger, sadder man but one with an arguably even greater talent for bringing nightmares to life.
“Utterly mesmerizing” The Washington Post
