The Day The World Came To Huddersfield

The Day The World Came To Huddersfield
On 4th July1981, thousands marched through the streets of Huddersfield. They came from all over the country for this protest, the first of its kind, the UK’s first national Gay Pride. This new production marks the 40th anniversary with an immersive new drama by award-winning playwrights Stephen M. Hornby, Abi Hynes, Peter Scott-Presland and Hayden Sugden.
Prepare your protest and get ready to shout “2,4,6,8, is that copper really straight?!” as a series of stories unfold based on the people who attended and the unique events of the day, stories of love, political activism and friendship. Relive this forgotten moment in history, the day when the world came to Huddersfield.
Praise for previous queer history plays by Stephen M Hornby and Abi Hynes includes:
“First class theatre, beautifully staged, interacting wonderfully with the audience” – Russell T Davies.“5 STARS: Both plays put across important factual points, made memorable by the use of humour, and shone lights on historical events which might otherwise have remained unsung.” – remotegoat

GIRLS WHO WEAR GLASSES
Quirky and comic, dark and delightfully saucy. Find out who's hiding behind the spectacles ... Patricia Hartshorne returns to Greater Manchester Fringe with this new comedy cabaret. Taking a break from award-winning performances as Marlene Dietrich, she reveals more of her alto egos - some more revealing than others ... But be warned , make passes at these girls who wear glasses ... at your peril!'cleverly paced entertainment ... from Hartshorne's commanding and idiosyncratic
persona **** FRINGEGURUDeskjockey Records Presents: The Welly House Band with Rodney and Harpanskraft–
Deskjockey Records Presents: The Welly House Band with Rodney and Harpanskraft
Desk Jockey Records are from Greater Manchester who found inspiration in Salford’s musical ancestry.
Although none of the members are originally from Salford, they studied and lived in the city, moved by the artistry that originated here.
“There’s such a scope of creative things going on in Salford. All the link to the Manchester bands that come from Salford, and looking through the lens of theatre you’ve got so many venues, like the New Adelphi theatre, or you’ve got the Lowry or even in here where we’re sat right now is a staple of Manchester theatre”,
Bringing you an evening of experimental, and sometimes dissonant music, this event will encourage the audience to be part of the performance.

For I Have Sinned

For I Have Sinned
Is a confession about releasing the burden of guilt or about attempting to discover it in others? We all have a past. We all have secrets. We all want justice. Some of us want revenge. For I Have Sinned matches two strangers - a man and a priest - in a search for truth and reconciliation... Sometimes, it might be safer to keep things to yourself... (Featuring Buxton Fringe Best Actor 2021 for For I Have Sinned: Shaun Hennessy)

Make-Up
Step off the stage, leave the glamour and the costumes behind, and get to know the person behind the make-up…
Lady Christina leaves the stage at the end of another performance in another venue above another pub. She’s tired of metro-sexual audiences looking for something a little risqué to tell their mothers about, she’s tired of young drag queens making it look easy, and she’s tired of putting on the make-up and becoming someone else every night. Drag has become a drag, and tonight could be her last ever show.
But when the make-up starts to come off, the face in the mirror takes Christopher Laneghan back to the life he lived before she came along. Can he live, if living is without her?
‘Gripping and intense. Moj Taylor gives us a powerful set of mental images through his quietly angry performance. Layer upon layer is warmly/brutally exposed. We come out challenged, disturbed, not quite angry: It’s a sharply-observed piece which raises questions, answers some, and raises more.’ Buxton Fringe Review
Nominated for Best Production and Best Male Actor at Buxton Fringe 2021

Mother There Art Thou–
Mother There Art Thou
The Rules have dictated Charlie and Murphy’s lives since they were born. There’s a rule for everything; how you should dress, how you should go to the toilet, and what the three permissible types of sandwiches are (egg and cress, ham and cheese, and mackerel if you must know). But when the siblings’ ever-present Mother and Gatekeeper of the rules passes away, the pair have to decide which parts of their reality they choose to accept, and which are made to be broken.
This new 2-handed short play is suitable for ages 12 and above. It explores the themes of family conflict, childhood rules, and what happens when those rules are gone. With it’s quick wit, original dialogue, and childlike themes, it’s the perfect dark comedy for young adults or older adults with an active inner child.

Twenty Today

Twenty Today
What does being twenty bring? For Pete Clapton, his teenage years were as free from worry as they should be. For his whole life, he’s lived in the same city, same apartment. Ever since his parents passed away, it’s been just him and his Aunt Holly, on whom the family legacy lies, a confident role model for Pete and a big partier and traveller in her day.On the eve of his twentieth birthday, and the eve of a big interview that could take him out of his hometown forever, Pete reflects on the death of his parents and worries if he has the strength to leave it all behind somewhere new. As the teenager prepares for his party, he finds his friends are in the same position. There’s Mike, the captain of the football team who has never gotten on great with anyone at school. His arrogance makes him difficult to listen to, and his relationship with his father is far from ideal. Laurie is a midfielder in the same team. Though he is as sharp and stubborn as Mike, Laurie understands Pete’s nervousness and has always stuck close to him. With a secret relationship that crushes his confidence, Laurie relies on friendship more than ever, just as everything looks like it’s coming to an end. When the party’s over, and all the boys are finally twenty, they feel their individual stories drawing their focus away from home, and towards the rest of the world. When home’s your whole world, what do you turn to when you leave?Sensitivity Warnings: Drug reference, Sexual references, Family bereavement, Profanity and Homophobic remarks
