The Bat
3rd October 2023 - 7:30 pm
The Kings Arms

A thrilling and irreverent play from one of Hungary’s most highly acclaimed writers, Krisztina Tóth, has been
translated into English for an exclusive English language world premiere:
When her child’s toy rubber bat vanishes from the school nursery, a mother descends into hell in this subtly darkly humorous critique of Hungarian society. The event incites animosity, blame, suspicion and eventually tragedy, painting a grotesque picture of the traps that the Buda Hill bourgeoise sets itself.

‘The Bat’ follows on from Dr Szilvi Naray’s and Ignition Stage’s previous translation and production of fellow
Hungarian János Háy’s ‘The Dead Man’ at MediaCity last July, which was recently the
winner of the Best Cultural Sector Collaboration Award at the University’s Celebration of Innovation
Awards.
