We are proud to present Verbose as part of our mini Fringe Highlights Festival.

Fringe Highlights- Dust off the Xmas blues, and watch some of the summer’s great events. Tickets are priced in PAY What You Can format; monies go to the artists and stage staff.

One of Manchester’s longest running spoken word and new writing events is back at The King’s Arms, Salford on Monday 29th January!

Verbose brings a vibrant mix of spoken word and live literature from a talented bill of open mic acts and two wonderful headliners every month. Expect poetry, prose and everything in between from a real community vibe that gladly welcomes all newcomers.

About the Headliners
Abi HynesAbi Hynes is an award-winning drama and fiction writer based in Manchester, UK. She wrote the first four episodes of historical audio drama DARK HARBOUR for Audible, and is currently developing many original dramas for TV. Her script LONG LOST was on the Brit List in 2022, and she has recently adapted ANNE OF GREEN GABLES for audio drama for Audible, starring Catherine O’Hara and Victor Garber and narrated by Sandra Oh.
As a playwright, her work has been staged in theatres across the UK, and she works regularly with LGBT History Month, bringing forgotten queer stories to life on stage. Her short stories have appeared in a wide variety of journals, magazines and anthologies; she won the Cambridge Short Story Prize in 2020, and her debut short story collection, Monstrous Longing, was published by Dahlia Books in October 2023.
Kayla Martell Feldman
Kayla is co-host of Process spoken word open mic night in London and her work has been widely published across the UK and North America. She is a three-time Genesis Poetry Slam Winner and has had work commissioned by JW3, Canada Water Theatre, Watch Your Mouth, Vashti Media, and The Narcissist Cookbook. In 2020, she took part in the Roundhouse Poetry Weekender led by Bridget Minamore and Cecilia Knapp. In 2021, she self-published her debut poetry collection, Tikva, and her second collection is out now from Verve Poetry Press. Her play Watchdog was a longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Playwriting and Theatre503’s International Playwriting Prize in 2023, shortlisted for the RSC’s 37 Plays Project, and was a top-ten finalist for Titchfield Festival Theatre’s New Playwriting Award and recieved an honourable mention from the Jewish Plays Project Priz in 2022.
